Tuition at Drew

Drew’s tuition is set each year by the Board of Trustees through an intentional process that takes into account a variety of vital factors. Tuition for families entering in the 2020-2021 school year is $51,975. Tuition includes books, materials, equipment, and athletic uniforms. A required, non-refundable 10% deposit is due with a signed enrollment agreement in March.

Tuition includes:
  • books
  • materials
  • athletic uniforms
  • field trips
  • weekly experiential electives
  • local DEALL experiences
  • senior capstone project 
  • college counseling services
  • Parent/Guardian Association membership
Drew provides supplemental tuition assistance for additional costs such as: 
  • technology (up to $800 reimbursement for one time laptop purchase)
  • on-site tutoring during the school day
  • DEALL experiences outside of the Bay Area
A required, non-refundable 10% deposit is due with a signed enrollment agreement in March.

Payment Plans
Drew offers three different tuition payment plan options to make paying tuition easier for families.
  • One-Pay Plan: After the initial enrollment deposit, one subsequent payment is due to FACTS on June 1.
  • Two-Pay Plan: After the initial enrollment deposit, two subsequent payments are due to FACTS on June 1 and November 1—each 50% of the total tuition.
  • Monthly Payment Plan: After the initial enrollment deposit, one payment is due to FACTS each month, beginning May 1 and ending February 1—each 10% of total tuition.
Tuition Assistance
Drew is committed to maintaining socioeconomic diversity by helping families afford Drew's college-preparatory education. Forty percent of Drew students receive some level of need-based financial support. Each family's financial situation is unique, and Drew considers every application carefully. The range of tuition assistance awarded to Drew families spans from less than 10% of tuition to nearly 100% which means your family could pay anywhere between $1,000 to $61,730 a year in tuition based on your need. The process of awarding tuition assistance is very deliberate and based on the assumption that each family who enrolls is using their own resources to the maximum possible extent. 

Tuition Assistance Application Process 
If your family plans to apply for tuition assistance, please review the timeline below. Please note that tuition assistance is granted annually and therefore you must apply each year. As of the 2023-2024 school year Drew now uses Clarity to process tuition assistance. We hope you find Clarity to be a more accessible and efficient system. 

Application Opens September 1, 2023!
Beginning September 1, 2023: Submit Clarity Application 
  • To get started, please go to the Clarity Application and create an account. The application typically takes less than 30 minutes to complete and is mobile-friendly so you can access it anywhere. You are also able to save your progress and return at any time.
  • At the end of the application, you will be asked to submit a one-time fee of $60, allowing you to apply to additional schools that accept the Clarity Applications for no additional charge. Fee waivers are automatically granted to qualifying families. Simply use the dropdown menu in the application to select those schools.
The tuition assistance process is entirely confidential. Separated or divorced parents should each submit their own application.

RETURNING FAMILIES: Applications due by NOVEMBER 1, 2023 
NEW FAMILIES: Applications due by JANUARY 9, 2024 

Clarity will pull the following documents from the IRS:
  • Form 1040 for 2022: signed, including all schedules
Other Required Forms uploaded by families:
If you are a shareholder in an S-Corporation or a partner in a Partnership (listed on Schedule E of your 1040), upload the corresponding Schedule K-1, 1120S, and/or Form 1065

BY FEBRUARY 6, 2024: Submit the following documents through the Clarity Link:
  • Form W2/1099: 2023
Enrollment agreements and tuition assistance for returning students are sent in February.

Enrollment agreements and tuition assistance for new students will accompany letters of acceptance in March.

Financial aid decisions are made entirely independent of the admissions process.

Drew partners with NAIS' Student and School Services (SSS) to collect and analyze your financial information online. This service is widely used by independent schools and is proven to be secure and user-friendly.

Financial Aid Process

  • Complete the PFS and upload 2019 tax documents

    Financial aid applicants and returning students must submit a Parent’s Financial Aid Statement (PFS) and all tax documents for 2019 to SSS by January 7, 2021. No financial aid awards can be offered without a completed financial aid application. Click here to complete the PFS form.

    Drew's SSS code is 2888.
  • Upload 2020 tax documents

    Applicants and returning students' 2020 tax documents must be uploaded to SSS by Feb. 10. You will be required to submit your Form 1040, supporting schedules and W-2s or 1099 by the deadline.

    SSS will accept your documents either uploaded directly to the SSS site or mailed to SSS.
  • Decision deadline

    Notice of financial aid awards for new students will accompany letters of acceptance and will be emailed March 19, 2021, and your response is due by March 25, 2021. Enrollment agreements and financial aid awards for returning students are emailed in February.

  • How do you grant tuition assistance?

    Drew's TA Committee distributes financial aid based on demonstrated need. On average, Drew grants more than $2 million in tuition assistance to support families as they pursue their educational goals.
  • What if I receive a tuition that I feel my family cannot afford?

    If you have been accepted with a tuition that you feel is higher than your demonstrated ability to pay, please reach out as we do have an appeal process for you to follow. You will be required to provide supporting documents if your income has changed since filling out the application initially. We will do our best to meet your need.
  • What is the typical amount of tuition assistance?

    Each family is evaluated individually, so there is no 'typical' amount of TA. The range of TA awarded to Drew families spans from less than 10% of tuition to nearly 100% which means your family could pay anywhere between $1000 to $58,695 a year in tuition based on your need. The process of awarding TA is very deliberate and based on the assumption that each family who enrolls is using their own resources to the maximum possible extent.
  • Do families with two households need to complete two Clarity applications?

    Yes, each year all parents must complete an application unless there is a court order granting one parent sole physical and legal custody.  Complete confidentiality is assured. The cooperation of all parents is required before Drew will consider aiding a candidate. Consideration of the other custodial or non-custodial parent’s financial status is based upon the belief that a family’s contribution for education is a reflection of the family’s ability to pay, not the willingness to pay.
  • What information does Clarity use to determine the Suggested Tuition?

    Clarity takes many factors into account when estimating a family's financial contribution, including income and assets, family size, age of parents, and number of children attending tuition-charging institutions, including colleges and universities. Clarity considers these and other factors and provides every family with a living allowance based on family size. This allowance protects a certain amount of income after a variety of expenses are subtracted from a family's income. A portion of this discretionary income is then suggested as the family's contribution.
  • What if my financial circumstances change between January and March?

    If other sources of financial support make it possible for you to enroll without financial aid and you have been offered enrollment, you must contact Joanna Lovett, Director of Admissions joannalovett@drewschool.org or 415.430.3771.

    Drew operates under the assumption that families who apply for financial aid cannot enroll without this support. Decisions about enrollment must meet the March 2023 deadline.
  • Will my tuition change next year?

    It may. Drew's tuition assistance is extended to families based on need. Applications are submitted annually so that Drew can assess for an increase or decrease in your TA award based on current needs.
  • Will applying for tuition assistance impact the admission decision?

    No. Drew manages the admission process separately from the tuition assistance process. The Admissions Committee works to assess candidates for readiness and best fit for Drew's community and program. The TA Committee works separately to distribute our limited funds to families based on need to those the admissions committee has accepted.
