"As a Drew faculty member and parent, I realize that by giving to Drew I can play a role in building the community I want to be a part of."

The Annual Fund

Drew School believes strongly in the power of young people and works continuously to create a positive and productive environment for our students as they develop their individual voice. As at most independent schools, tuition only covers part of the cost of our exceptional programming, so we turn to our community for its help in making up the difference between that income and the true cost of educating each student.

This year’s annual fund campaign, Make an Impact, highlights the impact of giving in our community and is an integral part of sustaining Drew School’s commitment to a challenging yet joyful curriculum. Your contribution, no matter the size of the gift, has a direct impact on today’s students, faculty and staff and the contributions they will make to our community and beyond. Our goal is 100% participation from parents and faculty/staff.

  • Offer a Challenging Yet Joyful Curriculum

Although school looks different this year, we continue to innovate our robust well-rounded programs to meet the needs of our students with over 70 courses and electives, over 25 affinity groups and clubs, 19 experiential education opportunities, our signature DEALL and senior capstone projects. Even virtually, our community can stay connected and engaged with your support, and we will be ready to reopen when possible.
  • Ensure Financial Diversity

Forty percent of current families receive some level of need-based financial support. Drew is deeply committed to economic diversity and offers a robust financial aid program. We believe in the power of providing access to families that can share their range of experiences and perspectives with the community.

Frequently Asked Questions:

List of 6 frequently asked questions.

  • What is Make an Impact and why is it important for parents to contribute to it?

Make an Impact is our annual giving campaign, and is the foundation of our fundraising efforts. Like most independent schools, and even many public schools now, we ask our community to contribute to this yearly unrestricted campaign. Since contributions are applied to the operating budget in the school year in which they are requested, Drew relies on donors to support the Fund every year. Likewise, your gifts have an immediate impact on the life of the school, and your child(ren)’s education.

The annual fund helps make up the difference between tuition revenues and the actual cost of Drew’s day-to-day operations. We ask that all gifts and pledges are made by December 31, and paid in full by June 15.
  • What does Make an Impact support?

Gifts to the annual fund allow Drew to continue to support the programs and faculty that make our school thrive: everything from Faculty salaries and professional development to financial aid and Experiential Education. The Fund also allows Drew to be flexible and responsive to yearly budgeting needs as they arise. In short, the Fund supports the school’s efforts to be the kind of environment that encourages teens to reach their potential every day.
  • How much should my family give?

This is a very personal decision. Because every child in the school benefits, we ask that everyone give at a level that is meaningful to their family. Gifts of all sizes add up to significant support for Drew and have ranged from $25–$50,000. In addition to financial goals, we also hope to achieve 100% participation from families, Board, faculty and staff. We ask that you will make the Fund your giving priority this year.
  • Why don’t you just raise tuition?

In keeping with our mission, we keep tuition levels comparable to area schools to attract and retain a diverse and vibrant student community. Raising tuition significantly above that competitive level may discourage families from applying, which affects the entire community. Also, in contrast to tuition, Fund gifts are 100% tax-deductible.
  • Or, just cut expenses?

The Board of Trustees and Administration work very hard to run a “tight ship” when it comes to our school’s annual budget. Most of our tuition revenue goes towards faculty and staff salaries, benefits and fixed costs such as utilities and basic maintenance. We pride ourselves on our programs and our close personal relationships. To cut expenses would compromise our mission.
  • What’s the difference between Make an Impact and the Spring Auction?

Funds raised at the annual auction often also support Faculty salaries, professional development and financial aid, though the exact program or fund can change year to year. This is another wonderful, fun way to support Drew, and provides a great opportunity for our community to come together for a night of celebration. We hope that families will choose to participate in both. However, keep in mind that gifts to the Fund are 100% tax-deductible, while auction purchases are only deductible for the amount over each item’s given value.

Drew knows and believes in teenagers. We engage each student in a process of intellectual discovery to develop an individual voice, the confidence to express it, and the empathy to understand its impact.
