Saya McKenna, Assistant Head of Academics

Saya joins the leadership team at Drew with over 20 years of professional experience in teaching and administration at the Head Royce School in Oakland, CA. As a school leader, Saya is known to operate with vision, passion and purpose. Throughout her career, Saya has served in many roles, including Interim Head of Upper School, Assistant Head of Upper School, Director of Global Education, and Grade Level Dean. Saya taught almost every grade level in Middle and Upper School English and Social Studies. She is a curriculum innovator with a special focus on developing relevant, student-centered, interdisciplinary courses like Multicultural Literature, Asian Studies, and Global Issues. Saya served on the founding Board of the Global Education Benchmark Group, co-founded the Institute for Applied Learning, and designed and led numerous study travel programs abroad. She holds a BA in International Relations from Stanford University and a teaching credential from San Francisco State.
