Drew Students Facilitate the Families of Color Welcome Dinner!
On Thursday, August 24, Drew was excited to welcome families of color to campus for the annual Families of Color Welcome Dinner. An introduction by David Frankenberg and a short presentation by Alain Sykes, Dean of Equity & Social Impact, was followed by a series of discussions and fun activities led by student leaders.
Our student facilitators represented the Shanti Alliance (Drew’s social justice action group), the Black Student Union, the Mixed Student Union, Bring Change to Mind (the leadership group focused on destigmatizing mental health), and the ASB. Spirits were high and laughter rang out as the group of over 60 people engaged in a rousing game of Identity Bingo and table discussions focused on place and identity. It was a great way to start the year!
