Students in Marian Ferrara's Algebra 2 class work collaboratively on test corrections for a recent evaluation focused on rational functions.
Algebra 2 extends students’ prior knowledge of mathematical structures by introducing algebraic concepts necessary in advancing the study of functions. After a brief review of linear and quadratic functions, students investigate the properties of advanced functions including rational, exponential, logarithmic, and trigonometric functions. Greater emphasis is on interpreting the abstract as well as developing a more detailed approach to the unwrapping and solving of the multi-step, complex problem encountered at this level of mathematics. Students will also obtain a broader vocabulary of mathematical notation, will learn how to approach unfamiliar material, and will master fundamental algebraic algorithms by the end of the school year.
