Abbe Clemons
Abbe Hoenscheid Clemons is the owner of Simple, a zero-waste store and community space in Cole Valley. She is also Principal Planner for Eyestone Environmental, an environmental consulting firm based in Los Angeles. Throughout her career, Abbe has spent time working in the public, private, and non-profit sectors working in urban planning, community development, and sustainability.
Without having stepped foot on Drew’s campus for her daughter’s freshman year, Abbe still felt the strength and nurturing of the Drew community every day, whether it was through her daughter’s laughter in between zoom classes or the fact that she had the confidence to step outside of her comfort zone and challenge herself in ways that never seemed possible. Abbe truly felt the authenticity and resolve with which Drew carried through its mission of knowing and believing in teenagers, even in the midst of a global pandemic.
Abbe studied political science and psychology as an undergraduate and has a Master’s Degree in Urban and Regional Planning from San Jose State University. In addition to her environmental work and advocacy, Abbe has been a staunch advocate for children and seniors. She has served on the Board of her daughters’ co-op nursery school and on the PTA board of their public elementary school, and she is currently serving as a Court Appointed Special Advocate for a foster youth in the Bay
Area. Abbe brings a great sense of empathy and a strong belief in the power of community to the Board of Trustees - traits that she sees reflected in the Drew community on a daily basis.
As a native of Pennsylvania, she relishes the California lifestyle and spends as much time as possible outside soaking up the sun. Abbe has two daughters at Drew. Tilly (Class of 2024) is on the volleyball and track teams and is in her third year of American Sign Language. Iggy (Class of 2026) is also on the volleyball and track teams and has become an expert on where to get the best (and most unique) lunches in the neighborhood.
Drew knows and believes in teenagers. We engage each student in a process of intellectual discovery to develop an individual voice, the confidence to express it, and the empathy to understand its impact.
