The Data Analysis class spent a recent class exploring colorism and the lack of representation of a variety of skin tones in magazine articles.
Before this project was introduced, each student was assigned an article to analyze and then discussed their findings in small groups. They are now expanding this project and collecting data from different magazines such as: Vogue, Vanity Fair, People, Allure, and plenty more; to see the variety of skin tones that are portrayed in each article. As this project has progressed, the students have learned that historically there has been a lack of diversity in skin tones portrayed in magazines. However, recent data shows that this has changed in the last few years and magazines are more representative of a variety of skin tones.
