Lisa Busby

Lisa Busby is the Senior Strategy Advisor at Phillips Brooks School (PBS) in Menlo Park, a role she stepped into after serving as PBS’s Associate Head of School. Prior to PBS, Lisa spent sixteen years at San Francisco Day School as an 8th grade English teacher, Department Chair, Director of High School Placement, and Strategic Plan Implementation Coordinator. This role followed several years of teaching high school English, first at Cushing Academy in MA and next at Lick-Wilmerding High School. Currently, Lisa is the Board Chair for Challenge Success, a Stanford-affiliated organization that partners with schools to elevate student voice and implement research-based, equity-centered strategies that improve well-being, engagement, and belonging.

Lisa is inspired by Drew’s commitment to igniting intellectual discovery and empathy in teenagers. She brings to the Drew board deep experience in K-12 independent schools, teen mental health, board governance, and strategic planning.

Lisa holds a BA in English from Kenyon College and an MA in English from Middlebury College’s Bread Loaf School of English. Her son Hovey (Clark) is a member of Drew’s class of 2026, and her daughter Celia is a member of Lick-Wilmerding’s class of 2024. Lisa’s husband Hovey Clark Sr. is a lifelong educator currently working at Woodside Priory School as the Sustainability Director and a member of the science department.

Drew knows and believes in teenagers. We engage each student in a process of intellectual discovery to develop an individual voice, the confidence to express it, and the empathy to understand its impact.
