PARENT OF 9TH GRADE STUDENT

"My daughter could not be happier at Drew! She absolutely loves her teachers, feels engaged, is already making friends whom she studies with on the phone, and is excited and happy about school every day. I am thrilled for her that she is clearly exactly where she should be!"

The Annual Fund

Drew believes strongly in the power of young people and works continuously to create a positive and productive environment for our students as they develop their individual voice.

The Annual Fund is the primary fundraising initiative at Drew and is vital to fulfilling Drew's mission. As at most independent schools, tuition only covers part of the cost of our exceptional programming. We turn to our community for its help to bridge the difference between tuition and the true cost of educating each student.

The Drew community generously gave nearly $800,000 to the Annual Fund in 2022-2023. Your contribution, no matter the size of the gift, has a direct impact on today’s students, faculty and staff and the impact they will make on our community and beyond. The annual fund ensures competitive salaries for our teachers, a robust tuition assistance program for four out of ten of our students, and the ability to provide innovative, experiential programming.

Each year, we seek to reach 100% participation from current parents, faculty and staff, and our Board of Trustees.

Frequently Asked Questions

List of 5 frequently asked questions.

  • What is the annual fund and why is it important for parents to contribute?

Our annual  fund is the foundation of our fundraising efforts. Like most independent schools, and even many public schools now, we ask our community to contribute to this yearly unrestricted campaign. Since contributions are applied to the operating budget in the school year in which they are requested, Drew relies on donors to support the Fund every year. Likewise, your gifts have an immediate impact on the life of the school, and your child(ren)’s education.

The annual fund helps make up the difference between tuition revenues and the actual cost of Drew’s day-to-day operations. We ask that all gifts and pledges are made by December 31, and paid in full by June 15.
  • What does the annual fund support?

Gifts to the annual fund allow Drew to continue to support the programs and faculty that make our school thrive: everything from faculty salaries and professional development to tuition assistance and Experiential Education. The Fund also allows Drew to be flexible and responsive to yearly budgeting needs as they arise. In short, the Fund supports the school’s efforts to be the kind of environment that encourages teens to reach their potential every day.
  • How much should my family give?

This is a very personal decision. Because every child in the school benefits, we ask that everyone give at a level that is meaningful to their family. Gifts of all sizes add up to significant support for Drew and have ranged from $25–$50,000 and more. In addition to financial goals, we also hope to achieve 100% participation from families, Board of Trustees, faculty and staff. We ask that you make the Drew Annual Fund your giving priority this year.
  • Why don’t you just raise tuition?

In keeping with our mission, we keep tuition levels comparable to area schools to attract and retain a diverse and vibrant student community. Raising tuition significantly above that competitive level may discourage families from applying, which affects the entire community. Also, in contrast to tuition, Annual Fund gifts are 100% tax-deductible.
  • Or, just cut expenses?

The Board of Trustees and Administration work very hard to run a “tight ship” when it comes to our school’s annual budget. Most of our tuition revenue goes towards faculty and staff salaries, benefits and fixed costs such as utilities and basic maintenance. We pride ourselves on our programs and our close personal relationships. To cut expenses would compromise our mission.
Drew knows and believes in teenagers. We engage each student in a process of intellectual discovery to develop an individual voice, the confidence to express it, and the empathy to understand its impact.
