Drew's annual Writers Festival is a multidisciplinary celebration of writing that engages students to see writers from diverse traditions and fields. Students engage with writers as living artists relevant to our time and experience in the Bay Area in order to explore a writing process through inspiration, creation, and reflection.
This year's theme is VOICE: Inspiration, Creation, Reflection.
Visiting writers facilitate a workshop to share their work, discuss their writing process, and lead a writing activity related to their field. In addition, students gather in the theater for two distinct assemblies: the first with keynote speaker Carolina de Robertis, and the second with Youth Speaks.
Visiting writers include:
Carlone De Robertis
Michael Gene Sullivan
Rachel SkalrMegan Waring
Laura Rena Murray
Students will see themselves in relationship to writers and topics across fields and disciplines
Students in each workshop create something that represents their voice
Students find space for strong individual expression
Students see writing as an essential life skill for communication and expression
Drew knows and believes in teenagers. We engage each student in a process of intellectual discovery to develop an individual voice, the confidence to express it, and the empathy to understand its impact.
