From the Director of Equity & Social Impact

My deep interest in both history and equity and inclusion began during my undergraduate years at U.C. Santa Cruz and became the driving forces for my future career. During my time at Hillbrook School, where I worked before coming to Drew, I was able to experience both of these passions as a middle school history teacher and the Director of Diversity and Inclusivity.

At Drew, my goal is to listen and learn from the community and collaborate with faculty, staff, students, and parents/guardians to add to the legacy of Drew. My aim is for everyone to work together in making Drew a place where everyone can truly bring their authentic selves.  

 

High school is not only a time for students to figure out who they are developing into, but to also learn about, respect, and develop an interest in the vast number of unique differences that exist within their peers. From advisory to lunch to the classroom, students will be able to engage in rich dialogue allowing them to uncover the delicate intricacies of identity.

 

Overall, the main desire of the Equity and Inclusion program is for students to be able to develop a greater sense of empathy and inclusion not only for themselves but for anyone they encounter in life. As our mission states, finding one's voice isn't complete without developing the empathy to understand the impact of that voice.

I am so excited to get to know everyone within Drew and am looking forward to school-wide events that bring the community together.
