Welcome Back!

Dear Drew Community:

I hope this message finds you savoring the remaining moments of summer. I had a wonderful summer filled with equal parts of relaxation, time to connect with family, and opportunities to reflect.

It feels like just a few moments ago that we were bidding a fond farewell to the Class of 2018 as they graduated and officially entered the next phase of their lives as alumni of Drew. And now, as we put the finishing touches on our preparations for our new and returning students, we’re just a few days away from the start of another school year—and the truth is I can’t wait.

As you return, you’ll notice that nearly every surface on the campus has been cleaned, repainted, and improved. There are fresh carpets on the second and third floor, new paint, new drinking fountains, new classroom furniture, and many other campus improvements. Our facilities team—Anthony Lynn, Sergio Peralta, Oscar Guttierrez, and Jose Garcia—have worked tirelessly this summer to ensure that our campus is in pristine condition for the start of the school year. If you see Anthony, Sergio, Oscar, or Jose, please take a moment to thank them for their outstanding work.

Another change you’ll notice is many new and talented faculty, staff, and administrators we have welcomed to Drew. These new faces are already on campus and making their presence felt in how we engage students in the process of finding their voice. I’m excited for you to meet our new community members as they become familiar with Drew and bring to bear their fresh perspectives and many years of experience. Please click here for the full list of staff comings and goings.

As I enter my third year as the head of this wonderful school, I feel more deeply than ever a commitment to the student-centered approach in which we emphasize exploration and discovery over traditional notions of success. As you read this, the faculty and staff are engaged in a series of intense professional development activities to help us imagine how, moving forward, Drew will become even more student-centered in every facet of its program and operation. The work is challenging and tremendously rewarding.

I am full of anticipation to welcome back all of our students who breathe life and purpose into our school, and I can’t wait to see how our students continue to find their voice this year. I look forward to seeing you at the beginning-of-year events, and to the many discoveries that await us during the coming year.

Warmly,
David Frankenberg

Drew knows and believes in teenagers. We engage each student in a process of intellectual discovery to develop an individual voice, the confidence to express it, and the empathy to understand its impact.
