Battle of the Bots

While many students spent last week relaxing on spring break, the Drew Robotics Team was hard at work as they competed in the FIRST Robotics Silicon Valley Regional Competition. This event “combines the excitement of sport with the rigors of science and technology…Under strict rules, limited resources and time constraints.”

This two-day event hosted over 60 teams at the San Jose State University, and Drew won almost all of their matches!

The team spent the last four months building their robot by cutting metal, stripping wires, programming with Java, and welding together a machine to achieve the tournament objective. Special thanks to mentors Jay Murphy, Doug, and Becky along with students: Carson Allcroft, Nate Murphy, Miles Irwin, Fiona Casamassina, Katy Simpson, Lucas Vickroy Solomon, Isaac Grossnickle and Nate Daniel. Way to represent!

Drew knows and believes in teenagers. We engage each student in a process of intellectual discovery to develop an individual voice, the confidence to express it, and the empathy to understand its impact.
