About Us

Shanti Alliance in Hawai'i

From February 17-20, students from the Shanti Alliance, Drew’s Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging (DEIB) student leadership group, attended the annual conference in Honolulu, Hawaiʻi. This year’s theme was “Ma Ka Hana Ka ʻIke,” or “The Knowledge is in Doing the Work.”

The conference keynote speakers led the attendees in reflecting on questions of place, responsibility, and action. In addition to keynote speakers, the participants learned from a panel of DEIB practitioners in education, disability justice, LGBTQ+ identity, and immigration support. During the three days of the conference, Drew students facilitated discussions about identity, intersectionality, and justice with their peers. Simultaneously, Drew’s Dean of Equity and Social Impact led educator sessions on intersectionality and race. We’re looking forward to bringing learning from the conference back to the Drew Community!
