Celebrating Lunar New Year

After weeks of preparation, the Mandarin students presented their Lunar New Year projects to the community school during an all-school event.

Lunar New Year began this past Sunday, 1/22! This holiday is one of the most important celebrations of the year among East and Southeast Asian cultures, and is celebrated differently with various foods and traditions in preparation for the new year.

At Drew, our students studying Mandarin prepared informational and interactive booths to teach fellow students community members about the culture and traditions surrounding the New Year. Each group explored a different aspect/tradition related to the holiday -  from the importance of oranges and tea, to the symbolic offerings and dances - to offer insight into the 15-day festival.
