Race Talk is Dividing Us! And Other Myths...

Drew began the new year with a renewal of our commitment to equity, community, and belonging led by Jason Craige Harris from Pollyanna.
On Tuesday, the faculty and staff participated in a workshop focused on recognizing and counteracting microaggressions and bias at school. On Wednesday, Jason led meetings with parents and students titled, “Race Talk is Dividing Us! And Other Myths About Race.”

Each of these opportunities integrated storytelling, reflection, and skill-building around topics that are often seen as divisive. However, as Jason reminded us, it is not talking about race that divides us; rather, it is social segregation, bias, and social injustice that separate us. Finally, Jason provided the community with the "8 Tips for Bridging the True Divide." These elements include seeking out difference while protecting and honoring the dignity of every person. Jason will be rejoining us again in April for an all-school assembly focused on the topic of Gender. We look forward to continuing to learn and grow together!
