Standing Together: Community Meetings

As a Drew community, we stand with black people, black families, people of color, allies and those who are fighting for equality.

Though we are in our separate spaces sheltering in place, we are a community who are here for each other, to support one another, and to talk and listen when things are heavy and painful. To say the second semester of this school year has been unique would be a significant understatement.  The wave of the pandemic not only completely changed the way of life for people all over the world, but it also further highlighted the massive inequities that already existed.

Over the weekend, Will Smith posted on Instagram “Racism is not getting worse, it is just getting filmed.”  The murders of Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor, George Floyd and the discrimination against Christian Cooper are just a few of the many names of black people who have been persecuted against during a pandemic that already disproportionally impacts black individuals.

As a Drew community, we stand with black people, black families, people of color, allies and those who are fighting for equality. Though we are in our separate spaces sheltering in place, we are a community who are here for each other, to support one another, and to talk and listen when things are heavy and painful.

As a community, we are opening spaces for all members to join, talk, process, reflect and listen. These spaces will be a place for any ideas and feelings to be expressed and are meant to be a container for all to be able to exhale a bit.  The community meeting times are listed below and will be facilitated by Jules.

Zoom links and meeting information will be sent the morning of the sessions. If you have any questions, comments and or concerns please feel free to reach out to Jules @ julesgreene@drewschool.org.

Drew knows and believes in teenagers. We engage each student in a process of intellectual discovery to develop an individual voice, the confidence to express it, and the empathy to understand its impact.
