What Is ... Supporting Drew?
Drew's program continues to evolve and flourish with the generous efforts of a great many people. Faculty, parents, staff, trustees and alumni join together to support Drew through their work as volunteers and as donors. It is only with this kind of care and generosity that Drew reaches its full potential as a community.
This support starts with the Board of Trustees and the Parent/Guardian Association. The Board, Drew’s governing body, bears the ultimate financial responsibility for Drew and acts to ensure that our strategic plans work in harmony with our mission. Unlike many schools, at Drew the cost of full tuition pays for the "basic Drew program" – including books, and the average cost of educating each student. The need for additional funding stems from specific areas of expenditure beyond the basic program. Drew’s primary annual fundraising effort is the Annual Fund (which supports the operating budget, and particularly Drew’s diverse array of co-curricular and enrichment activities), led by parents and trustees. Also, the Parent/Guardian Association’s Annual Auction/Gala, provides a major source of funding for Drew’s Financial Aid program.
Drew’s Annual Fund is integral for the education of the "whole" Drew student, i.e., supporting the "co-curricular" programs that create the "Drew Difference." These programs include athletics, "DEALL Days" projects and travel opportunities, the award-winning Spring ArtsFest, performing arts productions, Student Life initiatives, and faculty grants for professional development. Additionally, the Annual Fund provides crucial support for Drew’s Financial Aid program. For the 2006-2007 school year, 38% of current students received some form of financial assistance ranging from 5% to 95% of full annual tuition and, on average, a student in the financial assistance program received 58% of annual tuition. For the 2006-2007 school year, $1.3 million was given to worthy students whose families demonstrated need.
Drew’s generous donors also support the school through our Major Gifts Program and Capital Campaigns. Drew’s Major Gifts fund, “The Challenge for Excellence,” gives the Head of School discretion in attracting and/or retaining those faculty members who are critical to Drew’s academic experience.
