Annual Fund 2006-07

Our sincere thanks go to everyone who supported the 2006-07 Annual Fund.  Last year’s effort raised a record-breaking $323,000, and achieved 100% participation from our faculty and staff and from the Board.  And as of September, the 2007-08 Annual Fund has officially kicked off, led by generosity from our faculty and staff and from the Board of Trustees.  This year, our goal is to raise $350,000 and to achieve 100% participation among Drew families for the first time EVER. So we are asking every family to join our efforts and to give a gift in line with their means; every gift counts towards our 100% participation goal.

The Annual Fund directly supports the annual operating budget and helps Drew to create a rigorous and well-balanced educational experience centered on the individual student.  DEALL Days, athletics, ArtsFest, Global Affairs Initiatives, new technology in the classrooms, and the advisory curriculum are all supported by the Annual Fund.  Annual giving also supports faculty grants for professional development—this past summer saw faculty at the creative writing study at the Paris American Academy, the National Endowment for the Humanities Summer Institute in Sienna, Italy, and our faculty ambassadors to Keur Sadaro, Senegal.   Furthermore—and central to what we are all committed to at Drew—the Annual Fund bolsters our Financial Assistance Program, providing an impressive $1.45 million this year to families that have demonstrated need.

Mr. Jowell Fund 2006-07

Established during the 2002-03 academic year, the Mr. Jowell Fund is a way to both help current and future students at Drew while honoring Mr. Kenneth Jowell and his years of service to the School. Hired in 1988 after a brief career as a dentist, he became the face of the front office, and eventually the school’s official Raconteur. He encouraged and supported our students with a joke, a piece of candy, or a quote from literature and became a grandfather figure to many in the community. Passionate about music and forever defining obscure words, Mr. Jowell always had time to listen to the students and became an integral part of the Drew experience.

Mr. Jowell retired in August 2007 after 19 years of service to Drew—and was awarded an honorary diploma as a Drew “Alumnus”—but his legacy lives on. The Mr. Jowell Fund ensures that qualified students continue to have access to Drew’s incredible learning environment, an ongoing commitment the school has made over the years. This fund directly supports the financial assistance partnership program. During 2006-07, thanks to the generosity of the donors listed below, we raised $42,600 for the Fund. A great percentage of the total was raised at the 2007 P/GA event, “Lights, Camera, Auction!” We greatly appreciate the work of the Auction Committee in supporting this wonderful program.

Auction 2007 Donors

Last year, more than 230 parents, donors, sponsors and guests raised record breaking totals and netted over $95,000 for Drew’s mission! The annual P/GA fundraiser was a Hollywood theme, complete with life-sized movie star cutouts, and dinner and dancing at the Concordia-Argonaut Club. The silent and live auctions featured a week stay at a Costa Rican resort, breakfast with Senator Dianne Feinstein in Washington DC, and a private jet and one week stay at Yellowstone Club Private Ski and Golf Resort. The annual fundraiser, chaired by Mona Harroch with the help of former PGA president Norma Fogelberg, contributed to the student program and school’s Financial Aid partnership program, which supports more than 38% of Drew families.
