Senior Project

Senior Project approaches! This provides you with the opportunity to connect learning, life and work while facilitating your passage into life beyond high school. For seniors, classes will end April 25th, 2008. Senior Project will begin April 28th and runs through May 23rd, 2008. After your project proposal is accepted, you will work together with a mentor to assure that by April 28th you can begin the three-week venture with a strong sense of confidence as well as curiosity. Those students who intend to sit for the Advanced Placement exams will be able to complete their senior project after the exams. Any senior participating in the Drew Spring Play or Drew Spring Concert must also attend the after-school rehearsals at Drew during Senior Project. Students not in good standing (not passing) at the time of Senior Project will make arrangements to complete the project during the summer, thereby allowing Drew students to participate in and share the Drew Senior Project experience.

Program Requirements:
Students must submit a proposal detailing the project and addressing the nature of the Senior Project, which can adopt many forms such as a creative project on-site or off-site, a job internship or an apprenticeship. The student will first work with the advisor to draft the thesis statement.  Once the committee has assigned mentors, student and mentor will complete the proposal  then work together on the evolution of the project and students will check in with mentor at designated times during the four-week internship.  Observations, thoughts and reflections regarding the four to five hours daily devoted to the individual project will be expected and agreed upon with the mentor.  On May 23rd, seniors are required to attend the Senior Project Celebration.  The format of the celebration has yet to be determined; the committee welcomes inputs from the seniors.

Guidelines:
This year, students may submit proposals for non-local activities.  Students may also submit proposals for pairs or small groups.  The committee will approve such proposals on a case-by-case basis.  There must be an on-site contact person for any senior project outside the school.  All contact information for the on-site supervisor must be included in the student proposal.
