Students

Drew School’s focus is on developing the whole student, and cultivating each individual student’s potential.  The opportunities for self-discovery through academic, co-curricular and extra-curricular involvement at Drew are nearly limitless.  All students are encouraged to follow their passions beyond the classroom through unique programs like annual DEALL (Drew Education for Active Lifelong Learning) Days, Friday Electives, and the 3-week Senior Project.

Drew students are active, life-long learners who are engaged with the world around them. They come from all parts of the Bay Area (25% from outside of San Francisco) and from over 60 middle schools. 38% of our 250 students are self identified students of color and over 40% receive some financial aid. Our students have diverse interests and talents that range from the fine arts and athletics to Chemistry, Economics and World languages. The one thing they all have in common is their love for, and pride in, their school and their community. Click here to 'meet' some Drew students.

Our students pursue a rigorous core college preparatory curriculum and are offered integrative, hands-on, and experiential learning opportunities to connect what happens in the classroom with the world beyond our doors.  Drew recognizes that it is not enough to prepare a student for college – they must also be prepared for life, through citizenship, self-knowledge and independent decision-making.  Drew gives its students an education for life.

    Personal Reflection

Accessibility. That is what defines Drew. The teachers are approachable, the students friendly, and the opportunity exists for individuals to pursue their own interests and introduce new initiatives. From the moment I received my acceptance letter, I knew that I wanted to leave an impression. I have taken on many leadership roles within the community: a Dragon Ambassador, an FMP, the leader of our Eco Club, a member of debate team, and a fiery addition to the current events A block. Passionate students thrive at Drew, and if you are particularly interested in a certain cause, you have the ability to share your enthusiasm with the community and promote change. On October 22, I will be launching, with the help of faculty advisors and members of the Eco Club, the Spare Our Planet Program. If you are determined to make something happen, Drew is willing to support you in your endeavors.

Student Body President comments on his first impressions of Drew

I remember vividly watching the first Drew Volleyball game at our gym, Booker T Washington, and giving quick greetings to teachers so I could give high fives to my sister’s friends on the boys soccer team. I was just eleven years old and had two sisters attending Drew. I knew exactly where I wanted to go to high school.

    Navigating Drew

Going into Freshman Year I was unsure of the four years ahead of me, but when I stepped into the lobby for the first time as a Drew student, I knew I had a purpose.
