Welcome

Welcome to Drew, a school community of experienced, dedicated and  passionate faculty and engaged, committed students and parents.

While pursuing a rigorous college preparatory curriculum, and constantly raising the bar of excellence, Drew students take part in integrative, hands-on, and experiential learning to connect what happens in the classroom with the world beyond our doors.  Drew recognizes that it is not enough to prepare a student for college – they must also be prepared for  life, through citizenship, self-knowledge and independent decision-making.  Drew gives students an education for life.

The Drew faculty are both committed educators and caring people. Each academic department is led by a  “master teacher” with at least ten years of experience in his or her field.  Every faculty member is an advisor, and most coach a sports team or lead an extracurricular club.  In Drew’s environment of cooperation and participation, students can both develop existing gifts and explore emerging talents.  The Drew faculty works together with students and parents to graduate individuals who are engaged learners, effective thinkers, skilled communicators, and morally developed citizens.

At Drew our focus is on developing the whole student, and cultivating each individual student’s potential.  The opportunities for self-discovery through academic, co-curricular and extra-curricular involvement at Drew are nearly limitless.  All students are encouraged to follow their passions beyond the classroom through unique programs like annual DEALL (Drew Education for Active Lifelong Learning) Days, Friday Electives, and the 3-week Senior Project.

History

Founded in 1908 by the respected Bay Area educator John Sheehan Drew, the school has grown from a one student "coaching school" to a fully accredited co-educational college preparatory school enrolling 250 students in grades 9 through 12. Drew School moved to its present location at California and Broderick, a residential neighborhood between Pacific Heights and Presidio Heights, in 1911 and became a nonprofit institution with an independent Board of Trustees in 1973. After spending one year temporarily housed in the Presidio, Drew returned to its beautiful, award-winning new building on our campus at California and Broderick.
